The Black Road Stretches Out

The black road stretches out further than I can see.

Towering pines stand arm-in-arm, green and yellow walls on vying sides.

They blurrrrr in my peripheral.

Their linked-up limbs dare the hidden animals to

come on over red rover.

The sky is becoming… or

unbecoming?

As the sun sets behind me, I long

to stop

and watch it melt into the horizon as the light spills

out on either side and sinks below the world I can see.

But I remember, this side of the sunset is beautiful too.

And the moon,

almost round,

almost whole

like how I feel.

Half of me (at least) kept unseen.

And the black road stretches out further than I can see.
